Autumn is one of the best times of year to watch the stars. As the days get shorter and darkness falls, a beautiful starry panorama opens up when the sky is clear. And because it gets dark earlier, you don’t have to wait too long to spot constellations. We’ve put together four spots for your next stargazing trip:

1) Würzburg: Volkssternwarte Würzburg e.V.

The non-profit association offers talks on astronomy topics for anyone interested, as well as guided tours on different themes at the Würzburg Observatory. The focus is on observing the sky through telescopes when the weather is clear.

2) Kitzingen district: Münsterschwarzach Monastery Observatory

As part of the Münsterschwarzach “Sternstunde”, the monastery observatory invites you to watch the stars from September to March. Accompanied by two astronomers, observations are made through telescopes on clear days; on bad-weather days, the current night sky is explained in more detail. Interested visitors can find the exact dates on the website.

3) Main-Spessart district: Privatsternwarte Bischbrunn e.V.

At the Privatsternwarte Bischbrunn, everything revolves around stars, planets, and the rest of the universe. As part of guided observatory tours, you can visit the observatory by appointment. In addition, courses via the adult education centres in Marktheidenfeld and Lohr a. Main are offered.

4) Bad Kissingen district: Astronomical Dark Sky Park tours

There are also plenty of ways to admire the night sky in the Bad Kissingen district. Whether on an astronomy walk or a stargazing and mulled wine tour: the adult education centres in Bad Kissingen and Hammelburg, in cooperation with the biosphere reserve and Rhön GmbH, offer various stargazing tours led by certified Dark Sky guides.
