More InformationThe König-Ludwig-Haus clinic houses two specialized departments under one roof: the König-Ludwig-Haus Orthopedic Clinic – with 100 beds, one of the largest in Germany – and the Center for Mental Health at König-Ludwig-Haus – opened in 2017.
The District of Lower Franconia is the sponsor of the König-Ludwig-Haus clinic.
Two Specialist Departments Under One Roof
Even though orthopedics and mental health seem far apart at first glance:
Within the clinic, they share administration, nursing management, kitchen facilities… And of course, there is also professional exchange. This way, the departments benefit from each other – both substantively and in terms of atmosphere.
The König-Ludwig-Haus Orthopedic Clinic was founded over 100 years ago. Today, the clinic is a hospital providing maximum orthopedic care for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. At the clinic, patients from Germany and abroad are offered the full spectrum of modern orthopedics, including both surgical and conservative treatment. This specialized hospital also holds the traditional Chair of Orthopedics at the University of Würzburg. Since 2013, the clinic has been certified as an Endoprosthetics Center of Maximum Care (EPZmax) by endoCert. The hospital has also repeatedly been recognized in the FOCUS clinic list as a TOP National Hospital in the Orthopedics category.
In spring 2017, König-Ludwig-Haus was expanded to include a Center for Mental Health. The center is a specialized clinic for the diagnosis and treatment of all mental illnesses and includes an inpatient unit with a total of 60 beds, a day clinic with 24 places, and a psychiatric outpatient clinic. The center is an acute psychiatric facility with a public healthcare mandate. The focus is on general psychiatry. Specifically, the following conditions are treated: depression, post-traumatic stress disorders, and anxiety.
Orthopedic Clinic King Ludwig House
The ASB Senior Center “An der Volkach” in Volkach, located in the picturesque Mainfranken region, offers a home for people who require a high level of support and care. Built in 2011, the facility with its bright and friendly atmosphere is situated in close proximity to the historic city center. Here, men and women in need of care can spend the last phase of their lives in security and with loving attention.
The Senior Center follows the household community concept, where 60 people in need of care live in four small, family-like residential groups. These residential groups enable a daily routine that aligns with the residents’ previous life rhythms. Two of the residential groups are specifically designed for people with dementia and are staffed with appropriately trained personnel.

Working Among Friends
At the King Ludwig House Clinic, a family-like atmosphere is maintained. The facility is rather small – as a result, everyone knows each other, and it feels like working among friends and family. The networking between professional groups is close, and the willingness to exchange ideas is ever-present.
A True Matter of the Heart: The Health of All Employees
The health of the staff plays a very special role at the König-Ludwig-Haus clinic. And precisely for this reason, the clinic has established a Corporate Health Management program, which is being gradually expanded. The program includes, for example, yoga and Pilates classes or a back school. By the way: The food in the canteen is highly praised. Every day, patients and staff can choose from up to three different lunch dishes – all freshly prepared with the best ingredients.
