Things Are Happening Here

Elderly care, disability assistance, counseling and support for children, youth and families – the areas in which we are active already suggest that no day is like another for us. Every day, we support people with their individual needs and problems. Professional expertise paired with creativity are thus the tools of our employees. But social and economic challenges also ensure that we are constantly reinventing ourselves.

For More Purpose in Life

At the center of our work is always the individual with their unique abilities. We want to promote these in the best possible way and therefore constantly develop new concepts. In the area of elderly care, for example, we focus on shared living communities. This means that the focus is not solely on care, but on the opportunity for residents to contribute their abilities to the daily life of the facility. This way, seniors can engage in meaningful activities even in a care home. Integrating people with severe and profound disabilities into ‘normal’ life is also part of our tasks. We are particularly creative in bringing them into jobs subject to social insurance. For instance, we swiftly transformed one of our former training facilities in Marktbreit into an inclusive hotel.

“In my job as an administrative employee, it never gets boring. Although I sit in the office a lot, I still have close contact with our residents. I also manage our social media channels and come up with marketing campaigns. Here, I can be independently creative and know that the company fully supports me. It’s simply a great feeling.”

Our Core Drive: Meaningfulness

Meaningfulness also plays a major role for our approximately 2,600 employees in over 100 facilities. It is definitely a strong inner motivation that drives them in their job. After all, what is more fulfilling than doing good for others? Nevertheless, we want to give our employees even more reasons why they enjoy working with us: be it preferred shift schedules, fixed core working hours, working from home, further training, subsidies for childcare or bonuses for employee referrals. With our lifetime working account, where employees can deposit overtime and salary and then ‘withdraw’ it for a sabbatical, family time off or similar, we are even international pioneers when it comes to flexible working time models.

“Even during my school years, I knew I wanted to do a commercial apprenticeship. However, it was important to me not to sit alone in an office, but to have a lot of human contact. And that fits perfectly at AWO. Moreover, despite its size, there’s a nice family atmosphere here. That’s why I’m all the more pleased to be taken on after my apprenticeship!”

Innovation Doesn’t Come Out of Nowhere

Of course, we don’t develop new concepts overnight. On the contrary: to further develop ourselves, we have incorporated fixed elements that drive idea generation. At the annual Innovation Day, managers come together to develop new ideas. We also ask all our employees annually about their wishes and suggestions for improvement. After all, they are the ones close to the people and who will later have to work with the new tools and concepts.

“The great thing about nursing is that you can go in so many directions through different further training opportunities and that leadership positions are open to you even without a university degree. As a residential area manager, for example, I’m still close to the people in nursing care. Days in the office and practical instruction for trainees make the mix perfect for me.”

A Community

Whether we are developing ideas or taking care of our customers – we always tackle tasks together. This makes us strong and helps us overcome problems and obstacles. It is all the more important to strengthen this community regularly. That’s why we like to celebrate successfully completed projects appropriately, and we also come together in a relaxed atmosphere at summer festivals and Christmas parties.

Innovative Konzepte
