Rhön-Grabfeld District

Land of open horizons

Between the high Rhön and the lovely Main Valley lies a piece of unspoiled world. Wonderful panoramic views await you here. You are surrounded by paradisiacal nature. At the same time, according to the Prognos study on future viability in Germany, the district is one of the three most dynamic risers among all 402 assessed districts.

Population: 79,430

The Northernmost District of Bavaria

Nestled between Thuringia and Hesse, Rhön-Grabfeld is located in the center of Germany. Literally. Once a border area and underestimated gem, today it’s a model region for sustainable economy.

# Biosphere Reserve

Gentle tourism, organic agriculture… people have been working in harmony with nature here for centuries. Companies are also encouraged to produce as environmentally friendly as possible. This requires a lot of persuasion and constant commitment. In 1991, UNESCO awarded it the title of Biosphere Reserve.

Life in the District in Numbers

43

In the many small and large biotopes of the Rhön, 43 orchid species can spread undisturbed. You can find simple and extravagant orchids, species from the Mediterranean region and those that reach to the edge of the eternal ice in Greenland.

3.410

40,000 people work in the 3,410 local companies, mainly in manufacturing and gastronomy; of course also in the healthcare sector, as two spa towns – Bad Neustadt and Bad Königshofen – belong to the district.

6.000

You can walk or ride several hundred kilometers of designated trails for mountain bikers and an incredible 6,000 km of hiking trails here. Over hill and dale, past bizarre basalt formations, through cool gorges and over almost treeless mountain meadows. An eldorado for all nature lovers.

NIX, NOX, NEBULAE

sunt devitiae roenae: Snow, night and fog are the treasures of the Rhön, said Melchior Adam Weikard, the episcopal physician from Fulda, in the 18th century. And he added: “There are few regions in Europe that are more beautiful.”

This is What We Can Do (Among Other Things)

Affordable industrial and commercial areas, sufficient building land at many locations,
a high leisure and recreational value, and exemplary health care and aftercare. Fortunately, you don’t have to choose, but can take advantage of all the benefits of the region.
