The district is located at the intersection of four highways: A 3, A 7, A 70, and A 71. Additionally, the Main River serves as a transport artery. The Schweinfurt port also provides economic impulses for the district.

You’ll find six swimming lakes in the Schweinfurt region, including Lower Franconia’s largest swimming lake: the Ellertshäuser See. There are also two nature parks and plenty of hiking and cycling trails. 880 kilometers of developed cycling paths lead through the district.

Just 20 years ago, the district was strongly characterized by agriculture. Then came structural change, and several thousand qualified jobs were created by companies.

The district has by far the highest growth in business startups in Mainfranken. The number of commercial enterprises grew by 188 in 2014, which accounts for more than half of the total growth in Mainfranken.

This has been a tradition in the Schweinfurt region since 1840: Freshly cooked pork is served course by course and eaten directly from scrubbed wooden boards placed over tables. This is accompanied by farmer’s bread, horseradish, and sauerkraut, and everyone eats as much as they can; schnapps is also served.

Mainly small and medium-sized enterprises are located in the district. They benefit from good transport connections and favorable location costs. Moreover, there are plenty of young talents to be found here: For every 100 employees in the district, there are 6.5 trainees – a top value in Bavaria. The unemployment rate, by the way, is only about 2.8 percent.
