Your Career Opportunities at SKZ

SKZ – The Address for Everything Plastics

As the world’s largest plastics institute, we offer practical solutions tailored to our customers’ needs. We see ourselves as a partner to the industry with extensive system expertise: We provide independent services in the field of plastics technology for both private sector corporations and public clients.

Currently, we monitor more than 900 plastic products from over 400 companies. We are the market leader in continuing education and knowledge transfer in the plastics sector. In the field of research, we stand for market-oriented development and improvement of production technologies. We have a significant influence on tomorrow’s technology, for example in quality assurance, digitalization of production processes, or research with intelligent plastics. By certifying management systems, we additionally ensure performance and economic success.

Peak Performance in Plastics

Our goal is to advance ‘Peak Performance in Plastics’ (including in the construction, automotive, and electrical industries) and to network experts worldwide. We are looking for engineers, physicists, chemists, technicians, and physics laboratory technicians with plastics expertise. Particularly university or technical college graduates in plastics engineering can develop here into trainers, seminar presenters, testers, certifiers, or researchers and work on projects.

We Deliver Solutions

Plastic products accompany us throughout the day and for a lifetime. They should be safe, practical, and robust – while having as little impact on the environment as possible. Never before have more plastics been produced than today, and never before have they been so controversial. But also, never before has the industry’s innovative power been greater, and that is partly thanks to our work.

The plastics industry needs solutions for a variety of problems and questions. We provide them – in the form of intelligent and innovative answers. For this, we look ahead. In our research and development departments, we deal with modern materials, optimal production processes, and improved component properties, as well as with the evaluation of processes and products under economic and ecological aspects. In short: We ensure the proper handling of plastics and their recycling.

“I started working for SKZ in the testing laboratory in 2005, and I never thought about changing jobs. Because in my department, we are diversely positioned; every day I am confronted with new questions. When we develop short-term solutions and our customers are satisfied, that’s the greatest praise for my team and me.”

Dr. Marcus Heindl
Graduate Engineer and Head of the Testing Laboratory

We Meet the Highest Standards

Products awarded the SKZ quality seal are guaranteed to have successfully completed our testing, certification, and monitoring processes and meet the highest standards. The industry trusts us and our enormous system competence, which results from our excellently interconnected business areas. With our expertise, we support customers in the automotive, medical technology, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, communication, construction industry, games and sports, as well as household and hygiene sectors. Our institution is supported by the promotional association founded in 1961. Its members include more than 400 successful companies that use the institute as a platform for exchanging experiences and information and value it as an experienced service provider.

“In the technical center, we develop new processes and materials. We work interdisciplinarily, independently, and responsibly, which makes my job very versatile and varied. Our department’s success rate is high, and my workplace is simply cool.”

Kersten Kurda
Graduate Engineer and Head of the Technical Center

Top Innovation Leader

In recent years, we have been granted six national patents, and in 2018 we were even recognized as a TOP 100 innovation leader among German medium-sized businesses. This makes us proud and confirms our actions – also with regard to the future. We want to pass on the knowledge we gather, because education is a crucial factor for future success. One of our main tasks is therefore the training and further education of specialists and managers. With our decades of experience, we train over 10,000 people every year and cooperate closely with research institutions, universities, and colleges.

“In 1985, I started my apprenticeship as a physics laboratory technician at SKZ. Today, I work in supervising the mechanical testing laboratory and train physics laboratory technicians myself. Why do I love my workplace? Because of the good teamwork and interdisciplinary work in a wide variety of projects. It never gets boring here.”
