It’s finally here: The first Christmas markets are opening their doors. The lights in the historic old towns, the scent of mulled wine, punch and roasted almonds, and with a little luck, maybe a bit of snow: During Advent, Mainfranken transforms into a true Christmas wonderland. To help you enjoy the weekend to the fullest, we’ve put together a few markets that can be visited from this weekend onwards.
1. Würzburg Christmas Market
The Würzburg Christmas Market starts on Friday, November 28th and runs until Tuesday, December 23rd. Hot drinks, Christmas items and other culinary specialties can be discovered at a total of 125 stands on the Upper and Lower Market Square and in Eichhornstraße. Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 8:30 PM; Sunday 11 AM to 8:30 PM.
2. Schweinfurt Christmas Market
The Schweinfurt Christmas Market will take place this year from November 27th to December 23rd on the Schweinfurt market square and invites you to a cozy stroll around the market. In addition to lovingly handcrafted arts and crafts, a nostalgic children’s carousel and a children’s Ferris wheel, there are also roasted almonds, mulled wine, punch and other delicious specialties. Opening hours: Sunday to Wednesday, 10:30 AM – 8:00 PM; Thursday to Saturday, 10:30 AM – 9:00 PM.
3. Bad Kissingen Lichterglanz (Shimmering Lights)
The Bad Kissingen Lichterglanz will be ceremoniously opened on the market square on Friday, November 28th at 5:30 PM. Visitors can enjoy the scent of mulled wine, bratwurst and other pre-Christmas delicacies until Saturday, December 27th. Opening hours: Sunday to Wednesday, 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM; Thursday to Saturday, 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM.
4. Winterdorf (Winter Village) Haßfurt
The market square in the heart of downtown Haßfurt will be transformed from November 14th to January 6th into a Christmas Winterdorf, where visitors can experience a cozy Advent season. Whether mulled wine, punch or culinary specialties: there is something for everyone here. Opening hours: Thursday to Sunday, 3 PM – 10 PM.
5. Volkach Christmas Street
From November 28th to 30th, 2025, Volkach will be transformed into an atmospheric Christmas street. Along the main street and on the market square, you will find lovingly decorated market stalls with handmade delicacies, festive decorations, arts and crafts and original gift ideas. Opening hours: Friday, 5 PM – 9 PM; Saturday, 2 PM – 9 PM; Sunday, 11 AM – 6 PM.
6. Adventszauber (Advent Magic) Gemünden a. Main
Around the festively decorated market fountain, the city glitters in the light on the first three Advent Fridays. From 4 p.m., visitors can expect a colorful program of music, culinary delights and special surprises. Local clubs provide a diverse range of lovingly decorated stands. Artisans present handmade gifts – perfect for those who are still looking for original souvenirs.
